Investigating Wastewater: Solutions and Pollution is a SEPUP module designed for use in grades 7–12. The module contains a series of 10 activities that provide approximately 3 weeks of instruction.

Materials in Investigating Wastewater equipment kit:
- 16 droppers
- 16 stir sticks
- 16 SEPUP filter funnels
- 16 magnifiers
- 500 filter paper circles
- 40 packets of pepper
- 16 9-oz. non-graduated plastic cups
- 5 vials of pH paper
- 5 packets of red drink mix
- 8 vials each of:
- crushed malachite
- sodium chloride
- Dominade
- sugar
- powdered milk
- iron chloride
- lauric acid
- copper chloride
- copper sulfate
- neroline yara yara
8 30-mL dropper bottles of:
- water (shipped empty)
- alcohol (denatured ethyl)
- red food coloring
- universal indicator
- 5% sodium carbonate
- liquid starch
- 8 60-mL dropper bottles of:
- “Acme Wastewater”
- HCl (0.1%)
- KOH (0.1%)
Materials required but not provided in equipment kit:
- 16 SEPUP trays
- 1 class set of safety goggles
- 1 overhead projector
- chart paper or other large paper
- paper towels
- white, unlined paper
- access to water
- rusty steel wool
- baking soda
- 8 sets of colored marking pens or pencils (optional)
- 1 plastic spoon (optional)
- aluminum foil (optional)
- 25,000 ppm copper chloride solution (optional)
